Quakes shake southeast Alaska near Juneau; no reports of damage

JUNEAU, Alaska – Two quakes occurred in the same location early Friday in southeast Alaska.

The U. S. Geological Survey reports weak or light shaking was felt around Juneau, about 160 kilometres to the east.

There are no reports of damage.

The USGS recorded a magnitude 5.9 quake at 2:54 a.m. and a 4.7 quake at 3:19 a.m. about 80 kilometres west of Gustavus.

Both were about 10 kilometres deep.

The National Weather Service said no tsunami was expected.
