NEW YORK – Police say they’ve arrested 10 protesters for chaining themselves together and lying down on the George Washington Bridge.
Joe Pentangelo (pehn-TAN’-jeh-loh) of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says seven men and three women were in custody at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the protest was about. The Daily News says some outraged commuters — delayed over an hour — tried to pull down protesters’ banners.
The George Washington — considered the busiest bridge in the country — spans the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City.
It’s at the centre of a trial of two former allies of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie charged with closing lanes to the bridge to punish a Democratic mayor who didn’t endorse the Republican Christie’s re-election.
