Temperatures on the rise this week in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – The frosty start to March is going to last a few more days in Kamloops, more snow will fall this week, but Environment Canada says warmer days are on the way.

Meteorologist Carmen Hart says this morning's temperature of -17.9 Celsius was the second coldest March 4 on record in Kamloops, but temperatures will moderate through the week.

Today in Kamloops the wind chill will feel like – 20 Celsius this morning and warming up to -7 C this afternoon. The real temperature high will be -2 C under sunny conditions with a clear sky overnight expected and a low of -14 C.

Tomorrow will start off sunny but clouds are expected to roll in by the afternoon with a high of 1 C and wind chills in the -20 C range in the morning.

Periods of snow are forecast for Wednesday, lasting into the night with a high of 1 C and a low of -4 C.

Hart says snowfall amounts "could be significant," with between two to five centimetres forecast for Kamloops.

On Thursday temperatures should start to warm up under sunny skies, with a high of 4 C and an overnight low of -8 C.

The forecast calls for sunshine on Friday with a high of 5 C and a low of -4 C.

Daytime highs will soar under sunny skies this weekend to a high of 8 C on Saturday, reaching the double digits on Sunday with a high of 10 C expected. The mercury will drop to around -4 C overnight both days.

Hart says temperatures are expected to continue to moderate through March.

"Spring should be on time," she says.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 9 C and lows of -2 C.
