Candidates fail to file financing documents by deadline disqualified from next election
PENTICTON – Two candidates who failed to file acceptable campaign financing documents will be barred from running in the next election.
The two candidates, Duffy Baker and Connie Sahlmark, ran for Penticton council in the municipal election held last November.
A legislative requirement decrees individuals who fail to file candidate disclosure statements prior to legislated deadlines are to be reported to local city council.
According to a staff report to council, both candidates were late filing the campaign financing documents and were each fined $500, which was not paid.
Both candidates are now disqualified from running for municipal office until after the next General Local Election.
The Local Elections Campaign Financing Act requires candidates to file candidate disclosure documents within 90 days following general voting day.
