Police seeking public’s help to identify Okanagan fraud suspect

WEST KELOWNA – West Kelowna RCMP hope the public can help identify a man believed responsible for a string of frauds committed at cash loan businesses.

In late December 2018 and January of this year an unknown suspect is alleged to have provided false names and produced stolen identification to obtain cash loans form several lending businesses in the Central Okanagan, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect is believed to have taken approximately $10,000.

RCMP describe the suspect as a Caucasian man, in his 30s, with a slender build and trimmed facial hair. Police say he often wears a black baseball cap with white lettering. Police have issued an image of the suspect in an effort to help identify the man.

“Our hope is not only to positively identify the suspect, but to also prevent further businesses from being victimized by his tactics,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release issued Monday, March 4.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Const. Matthew Mackay of the West Kelowna RCMP detachment at 250-768-2880 or call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by leaving a tip at www.crimestoppers.net.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
