UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP remove man in distress from residence

KAMLOOPS –  A man in the Kamloops rural area who was threatening to harm himself this morning has been taken to hospital.

Police say they removed him from his residence unharmed at about 1:05 p.m. today, March 9, following negotiations with the man and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.

A media release says he has been taken to hospital for further assessment.

Traffic has been re-opened in the area.

"The Kamloops RCMP wants to thank the local residents, and any others who may have been affected by this police response, for their patience and understanding," the release says.

“The safety of the public, and the safety of our police officers, is our main priority.  We are very thankful for the positive resolution of this situation," Sgt Van Laer says in the release.

Kamloops RCMP responded to the incident at about 7:45 a.m. this morning.

Police put up a perimeter around his home on Dakota Rd.

Neighbours were asked to stay in their homes for safety.
