Kelowna Rockets edge Tigers at home

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets staved off a late comeback from the Medicine Hat Tigers, winning its eighth straight WHL contest with a 4-3 victory over the Tigers at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Saturday night.

Madison Bowey scored two third period goals to give Kelowna a 4-1 lead and what appeared to be a strangle-hold on the game. However Medicine Hat trimmed the Rockets lead to 4-3 with two goals in less than a minute midway through the period.

But Kelowna held on for the victory despite the late push, improving to 15-2-0-2 on the season.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring during a sluggish first period before the game picked up steam in the second.

Justin Kirkland and Myles Bell scored during the second to give the Rockets a 2-1 lead heading to the third.

After Bowey scored twice from the point, the Tigers made it close. However goalie Jordon Cooke shut the door, earning his 12th win of the season.

The Rockets now head into a busy week beginning Tuesday when they travel to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds.

On Wednesday the Rockets are back in Kelowna to host the Victoria Royals before heading back south of the border to play Tri-City next Friday night.
