Another round of snow forecast for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Winter has decided to ignore the fact that it’s mid-March and hang around for another few days, as Kamloops braces for another round of snow starting tonight.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops can expect between two to four centimetres of snow tonight, March 11, and another two cm tomorrow before it tapers off in the afternoon.

Sekhon says a snowfall warning is in effect for parts of Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, where elevations could receive as much as 15 cm tonight.

Kamloops faces a 40 per cent chance of flurries this morning followed by a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 8 Celsius. It will be windy as well, with east winds at 30 km/h gusting to 50 and 70 km/h.

Periods of snow are expected after midnight with a low of 0 C and potential accumulations of two cm.

The snow is expected to continue into the morning hours tomorrow with an additional two cm expected. Winds from the west at 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h will be accompanied by a daytime high of 7 C.

Wednesday should see mostly sunny skies and a high of 8 C.

A mix of sun and cloud Thursday and a high of 8 C will give way to cloudy periods and a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight with a low of – 2 C.

Sunny skies return Friday along with a high of 9 C.

Sekhon says the cold air Kamloops has been experiencing for so long has proven hard to move out, but weekend temperatures are expected to return to normal and above normal values.

In Kamloops, the weekend forecast promises highs of 13 C and 14 C on Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies, daytime highs which are actually 3 C and 4 C higher than normals in the city for this time of year.
