Minnesota-bound traffic stops on Blatnik Bridge as police pick up cash thrown by drug suspect

SUPERIOR, Wis. – An alleged drug suspect brought Minnesota-bound traffic on the Blatnik Bridge to a brief standstill after police say he threw cash out of his car window in Superior.

Investigators had tried to arrest the 23-year-old man while he sat in his car Thursday morning. Police say he drove through a lawn to escape officers, threw cash out of the window at the base of the bridge and continued to Duluth, Minnesota.

Authorities lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle at the end of Interstate 535, but he was spotted in Proctor, Minnesota, and arrested.

WDIO-TV (http://bit.ly/1pKflyt) reports the incident brought Duluth-bound traffic on the bridge to a stop for about 15 minutes as officers picked up the bills.

The suspect is in the St. Louis County, Minnesota, Jail awaiting formal charges.
