RCMP believe fisherman who was swept into Saskatchewan lake has drowned

PELICAN POINT, Sask. – Mounties in Saskatchewan say a fisherman is presumed to have drowned after he tried to save two others, including a young boy, who were swept into a lake during a squall.

Police say all three people were fishing near the resort village of Pelican Point on Last Mountain Lake on Friday evening as a storm moved in.

Police say they were standing in the water and that wind from the storm generated waves up to a metre-and-a-half high.

A 38-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy were washed into the lake.

The other man, 36-year-old Travis Kruszelnicki of Regina, tried to help them but he was also swept into the water and hasn’t been seen since.

The other two managed to get out of the water unharmed.

RCMP say search dogs and a heat-detecting drone were brought in to look for the missing man, but so far he hasn’t been found.

Divers were brought to the scene on Saturday, police said.
