Met Museum to present major exhibition on cubism from the collection of Leonard Lauder
NEW YORK, N.Y. – New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is presenting a major exhibition on cubism in the fall.
The exhibition of works from the Leonard Lauder collection will focus on Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger (luh-ZHAY’) and Juan Gris (wahn grees).
It’ll run from Oct. 20 through Feb. 16.
It’s the first time the 79-work Lauder collection will be shown in its entirety. The billionaire businessman pledged it to the museum last year. It’s considered one of the world’s most pre-eminent cubism collections.
Highlights include Braque’s “Still Life With Clarinet” and Picasso’s “Pedestal Table, Glasses, Cups, Mandolin.” Works from Leger’s series “Contrasts of Forms” and six painted collages by Gris are among other works.
Braque and Picasso created the geometric visual style between 1907 and 1914.
