Pickup truck burns on Trans Canada near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A pickup truck was left to burn itself out on the Trans Canada just west of Kamloops Sunday afternoon because the area isn’t covered by a fire department.

The Kamloops Fire Rescue dispatcher confirmed there was a vehicle fire but pointed out the area near the New Afton gold mine doesn’t have any fire coverage so Kamloops firefighters did not attend.

Kamloops RCMP showed up to help with traffic control but police wouldn’t answer any questions about the fire saying there was no investigation.

“Motor home towing a truck on fire just passed Kamloops on the way to Cache Creek,” Tonja McAndrews posted to Facebook.

A tweet from Savannah GB-Pierro says, “Vehicle on fire near New Gold right before getting into Kamloops.”

There are unconfirmed reports a propane tank in the truck exploded.

It’s not known if anyone was hurt.

The highway was open to single-lane, alternating traffic until the fire was out and the burnt out truck was removed.
