Shooting near Surrey, B.C., elementary school leaves two young men dead

SURREY, B.C. – RCMP say two men are dead following a shooting Friday night near an elementary school and park in Surrey, B.C.

One victim was already pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.

Police have identified the men as 24-year-old Vikram Toor and 19-year-old Ashim Raza.

The incident occurred just after the province’s public safety minister Mike Morris made a statement reassuring the public that police are working tirelessly to try to put an end to a recent string of gang-related violence in the Lower Mainland.

Police have linked two killings and several shootings this month in Metro Vancouver to gang involvement.

Police say investigators are trying to determine the motive behind the latest double homicide, but believe it was independent of other recent incidents in the region.
