West Kelowna hit and run foiled

WEST KELOWNA – A car involved in a three vehicle crash Monday morning in West Kelowna was allegedly fleeing from police.

Officers were investigating a suspected stolen vehicle when the driver, who did not have insurance left the scene and crashed into three other vehicles according to an RCMP media release.

The incident happened at roughly 8 a.m. Dec. 8. RCMP spotted a Dodge Dakota just reported stolen from a home on the 3400 block of Logan Road. With lights flashing, the officer attempted to stop the truck but the drive took off at a high rate of speed.

“Due to the potential danger to the public, police did not pursue the vehicle,” Const. Kris Clark said in the release. “Unfortunately, the Dakota apparently continued driving erratically and was subsequently involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Gosset Road at Highway 97.

Witnesses told police the Dakota turned west onto Gosset Road where it crashed into two cars near the corner at Highway 97 and clipped a third. Three men got out of the pickup and ran north on foot to the nearby Westbank Shopping Centre parking lot.

All three men were taken into custody shortly after the crash and are being held pending further investigation. At least one person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
