A sworn statement made over a year ago by Deborah Ashton—who is on trial for perjury—wasn't exactly accurate.
According to daycare records, Ashton, 48, who stands accused of lying under oath during a sexual assault trial, did not "always" pick up her son.
This is Ashton's third trial, after being acquitted in 2012 of the sexual assault charges against her. Two counts of perjury stem from the testimony she gave in her first trial.
At the stand today is Mike Jellema, 48, a former Vernon school principal, Ashton's ex-husband and father to their two kids. As he went through attendance records for his son's daycare, he revealed that he did the majority of the pick up and drop off. Crown lawyer Don Mann took Jellema through six months of records.
Jellema maintained that picking up their son "was a shared responsibility" between himself and Ashton. He testified that Ashton sometimes came home as late as 10 p.m. on school nights.
Ashton's defense lawyer G. Jack Harris began a cross examination of the witness Thursday morning.
The trial will resume at 2 p.m. Stay with InfoTel News for more.
