Alan Thicke to star on stage in ‘Queen for a Day: the Musical’ in Ontario

TORONTO – Alan Thicke is returning to Canada for a brief stage engagement, playing iconic TV personality Jack Bailey in “Queen for a Day: The Musical.”

The 12-performance run begins Sept. 26 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.

Thicke will perform in only 10 of those shows.

Inspired by the daytime hit “Queen for a Day,” which launched in 1945 and aired on radio and TV for 20 years, the musical comedy features an all-Canadian cast and creative team with music and lyrics by Linda Barnett.

The musical takes place in Hollywood in 1953, where waitress Claribel Anderson’s (Blythe Wilson of “Mary Poppins” and “Oklahoma”) experience at the glitzy Moulin Rouge Theatre forces her to re-evaluate her dream of being a perfect housewife.

The cast also features Denise Fergusson, Camille Eanga-Selenge, Lisa Horner, Angela Teek, Jay Davis and Marisa McIntyre.

“I am thrilled to be joining such an amazing all-Canadian cast and creative team for the world premiere of ‘Queen for a Day,’” said Thicke in a statement.

“The original series was a smash success during its run and I am looking forward to creating the character Jack Bailey, a man who enriched the lives of so many women throughout the years.”

Tickets range from $35 to $59.50.
