From YouTube to the courtroom

KAMLOOPS – A man who allegedly publicly accused a bus driver of kidnapping but was ultimately charged himself returns for the continuation of his trial next week in Kamloops.

Bradley Derek Smith faces charges of mischief and assault after an incident on a public city bus on Dec. 4, 2012 that ended up on YouTube.

The video — 'Kamloops B.C. Transit Driver Kidnaps Passenger' — showed two bus passengers accusing the driver of purposefully missing their stops and locking them inside the bus.

An investigation into the matter exonerated the driver and he was put back to work after the temporary suspension. Smith promised a 'shocking' defence to local media while in court over the summer. He is due back in court for the continuation of his trial on Nov. 26.
