The Latest: Men whose wives, 4 kids killed in wreck ID’d

GORMAN, Calif. – The Latest on a deadly wreck on a highway north of Los Angeles (all times local):

1 p.m.

Two men who had to be held back as their wives and children died in a fiery minivan wreck outside Los Angeles have been identified as northern California residents.

The California Highway Patrol identified the men as 34-year-old Aaron Hon Wing Ng of San Francisco and 45-year-old Wei Xiong Li of Daly City.

The fathers, who had been in the driver’s and passenger seats, escaped the van after the crash early Tuesday and suffered burns trying to save their families. Their wives and both their two children were killed.

CHP Officer Frank Romero says the minivan was partially in the right-hand lane after a minor wreck on Interstate 5, about 65 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. A semi-truck slammed going about 55 mph into the van from behind.

Ng and Li were being treated for moderate injuries at a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol says officers had to hold back two hysterical fathers as their wives and children died in a fiery minivan wreck on a highway in north Los Angeles County.

The dads escaped the van after the crash early Tuesday and suffered burns trying to save their families. The women and four children were killed.

CHP Officer Frank Romero says the minivan was partially in the right-hand lane after a minor wreck on Interstate 5, about 65 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. A semi-truck slammed into the van from behind, and it caught fire.

The truck driver and two CHP officers also scrambled to help save the victims. But Romero says the fire was burning too fast and hot for fire extinguishers or life-saving efforts to work.

The men were taken to a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol says a fiery minivan wreck on a highway in north Los Angeles County killed two mothers and their four children.

Two men were injured early Tuesday trying to save their families on Interstate 5, about 65 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

CHP Officer Monica Posada tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/295P29Z ) that the minivan was on the shoulder but still partially in a lane after a minor collision when it got hit by a truck.

CHP Officer Dan Williams tells KABC-TV (http://bit.ly/290xtTV ) that the two men ran up to him and his partner as they arrived and said their families were inside the van.

Williams says his partner tried to get into the vehicle but was driven back by flames, and they were unable to get anyone out.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department says a fiery highway crash has killed six people and injured two others.

The wreck was reported at 3:31 a.m. Tuesday on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Tejon Pass, about 65 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles news station KCBS-TV reports that a van was on the side of the freeway when it was struck by a truck and burst into flames.

California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Williams tells the station that he tried to help two men rescue those inside.
