Canada’s women’s under-22 team loses 6-0 to United States in exhibition play

CALGARY – Canada’s national women’s development team continued to struggle in exhibition play on Friday, losing to the United States 6-0.

The Canadians have now lost the first two games of the series, with Friday’s loss its worst ever in an under-22/development game between the North American rivals.

Goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens was pulled from the Canadian net at the first intermission after giving up four goals on 13 shots. Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 9-of-11 shots in relief.

Dani Cameranesi scored twice for the Americans, while Haley Skarupa had a goal and two assists. Lexi Bender, Paige Savage and Miye D’Oench chipped in as well.

Canada struggled with its discipline in the first two periods, giving the Americans eight power plays before the game had reached the six-minute mark of the second.

The U.S. went 1 for 9 on the power play, while Canada was scoreless on its five man advantages.

Earlier, Shae Labbe scored the game-winner in a three-goal second period as Canada’s women’s under-18 team converted three times on special teams to beat the United States for the second time in as many days, coming from behind for a 5-2 win.
