$100,000-worth of aboriginal art stolen from Vancouver gallery, police say

VANCOUVER – A Vancouver art gallery has been robbed of nine pieces of unique aboriginal art worth $100,000.

Vancouver police say the theft happened at the Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery in Gastown in downtown Vancouver on Oct. 30.

Detective Const. Daniel Yamniuk says the suspect broke into the art gallery's storage locker and took off with aboriginal masks, wooden panels and sculptures.

Yamniuk says the art pieces are one-of-a-kind, and that they reflect the heritage and diversity of the artists who made them.

Anyone with information about the theft are asked to contact the police.
