Police: Man wrote apology before goading officer to kill him
MANCHESTER, N.J. – Authorities say a man who goaded a New Jersey police officer into shooting him had written a note apologizing for using the officer in his suicide.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says 18-year-old Limichael Shine, of Toms River, called 911 on Sunday and said he wanted a police officer because he was going to kill himself.
Authorities say Shine told Manchester Township police to shoot him. They say he walked toward officers with a knife, despite orders to drop the weapon. An officer shot Shine once and he died at a hospital.
A note was found near Shine in which he said his goal was to have an officer take his life.
The shooting is under investigation.
