The Latest: FBI says it has recovered agent’s stolen gun

SAN FRANCISCO – The Latest on the theft of an FBI agent’s gun from his car (all times local):

1 p.m.

The FBI says it has recovered a gun that was stolen from an agent’s vehicle in San Francisco.

FBI spokesman Prentice Danner said in a statement that an FBI SWAT team executed a search warrant at a home in the city around 11 a.m. Tuesday. A suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody.

Danner said investigators were led to the home with the help of surveillance footage from the scene of the theft. San Francisco police have said the agent’s .40-calibre Glock handgun, badge and credentials were taken from his vehicle on Sunday in the city’s popular Alamo Square.

The FBI said the search for the agent’s credentials and badge was ongoing.

The theft followed a series of break-ins and burglaries where guns have been stolen and used in homicides in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The FBI says it’s working with police to investigate the theft of an agent’s gun and badge from his car in San Francisco.

The agency said in a statement Tuesday that it was aware of the theft report. It declined additional comment.

San Francisco Officer Carlos Manfredi says the FBI agent reported that his vehicle was broken into Sunday afternoon in the city’s popular Alamo Square.

Manfredi says the agent’s .40-calibre Glock handgun was stolen, along with his ID badge and credentials.

The theft follows a series of break-ins and burglaries where guns have been stolen and used in homicides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
