Man hit by transit bus after fight in Burnaby, B.C., won’t survive: coroner

BURNABY, B.C. – The BC Coroners Service says a man hit by a transit bus last week in Burnaby, B.C., has been declared neurologically deceased.

A spokesman for the coroner says the unnamed man remains on life support at Vancouver General Hospital.

Burnaby RCMP said the 33-year-old man was critically injured shortly after an altercation with a 62-year-old man on June 11.

The alleged altercation happened on a sidewalk along Hastings Street and police say the man entered the street and was critically injured when he was hit by the transit bus.

The 62-year-old man was taken into custody but was released without charges.

The police investigation is continuing.

Last week, police said they were trying to determine if the two men knew each other.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version based on information from the BC Coroners Service said the man who was hit by the bus was dead. The service has clarified that the man is neurologically deceased.
