Police: North Carolina tourist drowns on Puerto Rico beach

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Authorities in Puerto Rico say a tourist from North Carolina has drowned on a small island near the U.S. territory.

Police say 69-year-old Harold Sherman Pope Jr died on Thursday on Flamenco Beach in Culebra, a popular site with tourists.

Authorities say they don’t immediately have a hometown for the victim.

Culebra is located just east of the main island of Puerto Rico.
