Dangerous drug that causes a ‘zombie-like’ state found in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — A dangerous drug was detected in Kamloops last week and health officials are warning the community about the unusual state it can put people in.
In a tweet sent out on April 18 Interior Health officials said a beige granular powder had tested positive for synthetic cannabinoid in suspected fentanyl.
In high doses, synthetic cannabinoid also known as AMB-FUBINACA can look like an opioid overdose but will not respond to naloxone, Interior Health said.
The high causes ‘speedy’ or ‘trippy’ like symptoms with possible hallucinations.
In 2016, the drug made headlines in New York City where several people were found in a zombie-like described state where they exhibited slowed speech and behaviour.
AMB-FUBINACA has been detected in samples of products labeled AK-47 24 Carat Gold, Train Wreck2, and Scooby Snax Limited Edition Blueberry Potpourri.
Some street names for synthetic cannabinoids, which may or may not contain AMB-FUBINACA, include 'K2', 'spice', and 'fake weed' among others.
