Blue Bombers turn to Joey Elliott as season continues to spiral downwards

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Blue Bombers backup quarterback Joey Elliott is getting another shot under centre.

Elliot missed last season with a torn knee ligament, but will start on Thursday when the Bombers (1-5) host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-3).

He says the knee feels fine, adding that he hardly notices the brace he wears.

Elliott is taking over from Alex Brink, who started for an injured Buck Pierce for three games.

Brink had one win and two losses and the team wants to see what Elliott can do.

Winnipeg’s offence has been particularly weak in the first quarter and offensive co-ordinator Gary Crowton says that must change.
