MacLennan among several Canadian athletes to return home from London

TORONTO – Canada’s only gold medallist at the London Olympics is back home.

Trampolinist Rosie MacLennan was one of several Canadian athletes to touch down on home soil today.

Wearing the gold medal around her neck, the King City, Ont., native was met by a throng of media and supporters at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Soccer stars Christine Sinclair and Diana Matheson — who won bronze in London — also returned home today.

MacLennan took the gold in women’s trampoline, beating a pair of favoured Chinese athletes.

The 23-year-old gymnast says the win has brought a lot of attention to her and her sport.

“Now everybody knows my name,” said MacLennan, whose saw her Twitter followers explode from 900 to more than 14,000 after the big win.

Canada finished the London Games with 18 medals — one gold, five silver and 12 bronze.

Matheson scored the dramatic winning goal in Canada’s bronze-medal victory over France.

“I think right now were going home to sleep for a week,” she said.
