West Kelowna firefighters kept busy with house fire and grass fires

WEST KELOWNA – West Kelowna fire crews were busy putting out a house fire this morning when they were called to deal with two suspicious grass fires.

The single storey house on Grouse Road was fully on fire when crews arrived today, May 1, and quickly extinguished the blaze, according to a West Kelowna Fire Rescue media release.

Bystanders said the house was vacant. No one was found inside and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

While still on the scene of the Grouse Road house fire, two small grass fires were reported near Scott Crescent so six of the 14 firefighters put those out. They are considered suspicious.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue says as of today, the open burning season is over so any sightings of smoke should be reported to 9-1-1 immediately.
