SIERRA MADRE, Calif. – A man who was attacked by a bear in foothills near Los Angeles has been released from the hospital.
KABC-TV (http://bit.ly/2dJFHnS ) reports Dan Richman is back in his Sierra Madre home Tuesday.
Richman says he was running on a wilderness trail Monday when he saw a bear standing on its hind legs ahead.
He tried to back away and found another bear behind him. He yelled and it walked off the trail.
But Richman tells KCAL-TV (http://cbsloc.al/2dZZYEA ) the bear attacked when he tried to run past. He wound up on hands and knees with its mouth around his neck.
He held completely still until the bear left.
He suffered cuts, scratches and punctures.
State wildlife officials say Richman may have interrupted a mating session.
