Woods, Rodgers, Allen and Cornish earn CFL’s player of the week honours

TORONTO – Montreal’s Bear Woods and James Rodgers won CFL player of the week awards for their performances in the Alouettes’ 38-31 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Woods was named top defensive player, while Rodgers picked up the top special teams award. Saskatchewan’s Anthony Allen was named the top offensive player, while Jon Cornish won top Canadian honours.

Woods recorded a career-high 10 tackles, plus two sacks in Montreal’s comeback win over Hamilton.

Rodgers returned a Justin Medlock punt 83 yards for a touchdown. He returned 10 punts for 100 and two kickoffs for 45 yards in the game.

Allen rushed the ball 18 times for 115 yards and scored a touchdown in the Riders’ 30-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He scored the touchdown late in the first half from 13 yards out. He also had two receptions for 21 yards.

Cornish carried the ball 17 times for 109 yards and a touchdown in Calgary’s 41-34 win over Edmonton. He scored the Stamps’ final touchdown on a 10-yard run to seal the Stamps’ victory.
