Okanagan Rail Trail already getting some upgrades

VERNON – The Okanagan Rail Trail is set for some upgrades that will give those hiking and biking an opportunity to learn about its history and the surrounding natural environment.

The trail will soon have improvements and the restoration of select areas that will educate users of the trail's history as well as a nature interpretation, according to a Regional District of North Okanagan media release.

These attractions will be featured at select spots along the trail in Coldstream, Lake Country and Kelowna, and have been paid for by a private donor. The regional district doesn't say how much the donation was.

"As a part of these upgrades, we will be completing environmental protection work, and enhancing a select area adjacent to the trail," regional district manager of parks Keith Pinkoski said in the release.

Work is already underway at kilometre 3.7 of the rail trail and users are advised to obey construction signs and flaggers. The regional district says work is expected to last two to three weeks and workers will take all necessary steps to avoid disrupting the use of the trail while work the is being completed.

The regional district doesn't give a timeline for the rest of the upgrades.
