Networks air Rice video after its executives say they’re cutting back

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Television executives say they want minimize replays of the video showing NFL player Ray Rice knocking out his then-fiancee with a punch. In practice, it’s harder to resist.

CNN aired the video 13 times Thursday night on two different shows, just hours after its programming chief publicly talked about too many repeats being gratuitous. Similarly, a Fox News executive said Thursday that continuing to show the video is overdoing it for shock value — and his network ran it twice more later in the day.

CNN aired the video during Erin Burnett’s interview with New York radio personality Craig Carton — who urged the network to stop.
