South Okanagan Pics and Sticks fundraiser features NHL alumni and country music stars

PENTICTON – Edmonton Oilers alumni are making their way to the Okanagan for a charity event next week.

The Gord Bamford Foundation hosts its first annual Pics and Sticks charity event with a hockey game featuring the Edmonton Oilers Alumni versus The Alumni.

The game takes place at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. and will feature NHL alumni Glenn Anderson, Chris Joseph, Marty McSorley and Ron Lowe.

Hosted by Gord Bamford and Kevin Primeau, the game is an opportunity for people to play with NHL alumni and country music stars Chad Brownlee, Aaron Pritchett, Dallas Smith and Gord Bamford.

The event provides funds to South Okanagan charities like the Children’s Miracle Network, Make-A -Wish Foundation, Basic for Babies as well as the area’s minor hockey associations.

Pics and Sticks is a mix of sport and music, with Wednesday’s charity hockey game, followed by Thursday's 18-hole golf tournament at Nk’Mip Canyon Golf Course in Oliver and a banquet and concert at Spirit Ridge in Osoyoos.

“This event brings together a few of my favourite things. Country music, hockey, golf, and community support. I’m really looking forward to watching this event unfold in one of Canada’s most spectacular settings,” Gord Bamford said in a media release.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
