Kelowna’s Dane Rupert wins Big Brother 7 reality show

KELOWNA – His friends might have dubbed him ‘Prince of Kelowna’ but Dane Rupert is now the King of Big Brother Canada.

Rupert, the gap-toothed Kelowna hockey player, walked away with $100,000 and the title of winner of season seven of the popularity reality show.

Rupert was not only a unanimous final vote to win the show, he is one of only three players ever on the show to finish the season with no eviction votes.

Sixteen Contestants on the show are locked in a house with other players and have no contact with the outside world for more than two months. Inside, their every moment is captured on video and audio while they seek to avoid ‘eviction’ by other houseguests after competing for physical, social and mental challenges.

In his final speech to ousted house guests who would decide his fate, Rupert explained his strategy.

"I knew coming in this house I was going to be a huge target because of my physical appearance – I wanted you guys to fall in love with this dumb, goofy hockey-jock that I am,” he said.

The 27-year-old is also a civil technician. His final opponent was Anthony Douglas, a 31-year-old gas inspector from Richmond Hill, Ont.

Dane’s official Big Brother Twitter account, which is managed by his family, thanked everyone who supported him.

"Thank you to all the friends, family and even the haters, you have made this a very well rounded experience for us. To the rest of the (house guests), thank you for your friendships and enduring all that you did and still supporting our boy.”
