6 die along British coastlines this weekend

LONDON – Authorities say six people have died along British coastlines this weekend amid heavy surf and stormy conditions.

Three men, two women and a child were among the dead in separate incidents on Saturday.

Julie Walker, 37, and her son, Lucas, 6, ran into trouble at a beach in Aberdeen in Scotland. Police say Lucas’ brother, Samuel, 13, jumped into the water in a vain attempt to save his mother and brother, and is now recovering in a hospital.

In another incident, a man was swept off a rock by a large wave at Fistral Beach in Cornwall. His 2-year-old daughter remains hospitalized. Other incidents involving swimmers and a wind surfer — not yet formally identified — took place along the southern coast and near Green Island in Jersey.
