Water Park in Kelowna’s City Park to open May long weekend

KELOWNA – Kelowna’s newly renovated Water Park will be open for Victoria Day long weekend.

Flooding in 2017 damaged infrastructure and the water delivery systems forcing the Water Park to close. It remained closed for both the 2017 and 2018 summer seasons. Construction to repair and renovate the park began in March. An entirely new water delivery and disposal system has been installed that meets health standards for water delivery and is now flood resistant.

That cost $410,000 and was covered by an insurance claim.

Waterplay Solutions Corp., a local aquatic play manufacturer who was the original supplier for the Water Park when it was first built, worked with their agency partner RecTec Industries to contribute new aquatic play features to the project.

The updated Water Park design is a nature theme that complements the surrounding landscape of City Park. New features include large misting grasses, a towering Ladybug Soaker, spraying woodland critters, and spray cannons disguised as wildflowers. The park also kept the popular slide activity tower which was added to the space in 2014.

The Water Park, located in City Park, will open Saturday, May 18 at 8 a.m. to the public.

A community event will take place in June to mark the official opening of the Water Park with details to be released closer to the day.

The Water Park is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. including weekends. Quilchena Splash Park and Ben Lee Water Park will also open for the season starting Saturday, May 18.
