Retro golden arches still stand at this McDonald’s location in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — As you’re driving along the Trans Canada Highway near Kamloops, you might notice the McDonald’s off the highway in Valleyview.
It may not be for the Big Macs or french fries, but for the retro towering golden arches that aren't often seen anymore.
The Tournament Capital has several McDonald's locations across the city but the Valleyview location stands out as the only spot with original golden arches. According to staff, the sign dates back more than two decades.
It's a rare sighting for McDonald's as the chain has evolved it's style significantly over the years.
In 2017, the city of Richmond made an effort to preserve the golden arches sign at Canada's first McDonald's location. Richmond Coun. Bill McNulty called the sign an "iconic landmark" in a Global News report.
