People’s Party leader Maxime Bernier paying Thompson-Okanagan a visit

KAMLOOPS — Maxime Bernier will touring the Thompson-Okanagan this week.

Starting tomorrow, May 23, the leader of the People's Party of Canada will be in Kamloops for a brief visit to announce the candidates running for the party's nomination in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding. He will also be making short visits to Vernon and Penticton tomorrow, before heading to Kelowna for a two-day event.

"We are doing a bit of a tour of the Okanagan to announce some candidates and (it) gives us an opportunity to get the party executives together," the party's regional coordinator Glen Walushka says.

Bernier's visit to Kelowna includes a reception and fundraiser dinner on Friday at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort. Tickets range from $75 to $300. Candidates will also be in attendance.

On Saturday afternoon, the party leader will be at a special event called Pioneer Town Showdown with Maxime Bernier at 1590 Pioneer Road.

Bernier served as a Member of Parliament in Quebec for the Conservative Party until last year when he quit. He filed paperwork in October 2018 to create his own political party.
