Ground-breaking musical ‘Fun Home’ to leave Broadway in fall

NEW YORK – The ground-breaking Tony Award-winning musical “Fun Home” will be leaving Broadway in the fall.

Producers said Tuesday the show will play its final performance Sept. 10, leaving the Circle in the Square Theatre after 28 previews and 582 regular performances. It is the first Broadway show with a lesbian protagonist.

The touching and beautiful show is based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel memoir about growing up with a closeted dad in the family’s funeral home business. It won the 2015 best musical Tony and a national tour kicks off in October.

With a book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and music by Jeanine Tesori, the show switches between three different actresses playing the narrator as she shifts through her memory for clues about her father.
