‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ becomes nation’s most produced theatre work

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Christopher Durang’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” tops the list of the most produced plays nationwide during the 2014-15 season, according to the theatre industry’s largest trade group.

American Theatre magazine, published by Theatre Communications Group, announced the list in its October issue. It omits holiday-themed shows and Shakespeare works.

Twenty-seven theatres will produce Durang’s play, which centres on three middle-aged siblings uneasily negotiating with age. John Patrick Shanley’s “Outside Mullingar” was next with 10 productions and “Bad Jews” by Joshua Harmon and “Other Desert Cities” by Jon Robin Baitz were each tied with eight.

The Top 10 also includes David Ives’ “Venus in Fur” and Amy Herzog’s “4000 Miles.”

The list was compiled from 404 member theatres.
