Utah files notice it will appeal ruling striking down polygamy ban in ‘Sister Wives’ case
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s attorney general has filed notice that he will appeal a ruling striking down parts of the state’s anti-polygamy law in a lawsuit brought by the family on the TLC reality TV show “Sister Wives.”
Attorney General Sean Reyes filed the notice Wednesday, about a month after a federal judge issued a final ruling in the case.
Reyes spokeswoman Missy Larsen says Utah will file the appeal with the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals within two weeks.
In December, U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups ruled in favour of reality show star Kody Brown and his four wives.
Waddoups ruled a provision of the law forbidding cohabitation violated the Browns’ freedom of religion.
Brown family attorney Jonathan Turley says the family will take the legal fight to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.
