VANCOUVER – The Canadian Press reported in a story about wildfires in British Columbia on Aug. 20 that a senior scientist at the B.C. Centre for Disease Control said pregnant women should take precautions because exposure to smoke can cause slightly lower birth weights. Sarah Henderson has clarified the remark to say the exposure to smoke causing lower birth weights is based on one study that was done in California.
