UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. – Canada has been making news at the United Nations this week. Here’s a quick look at what’s been said:
On Ebola: International Development Minister Christian Paradis pledged another $30 million to fight the west African Ebola outbreak.
On Iraq: Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the United States has asked Canada for more help in the fight against radical Islamists in Iraq and Syria and the cabinet will review the request.
On maternal and child health: Canada pledged $200 million (flowing from a previously announced $3.5 billion) towards a new US$4 billion international fund to prevent maternal and newborn deaths.
On climate change: Environment Minister Aglukkaq said Canada will match American vehicle-emissions standards and curb the use ofhydrofluorocarbon coolants.
