Vernon physiotherapist due for trial on two counts of sexual assault

VERNON – A practicing Vernon physiotherapist is due to stand trial on two sexual assault charges June 27.

Stephen Witvoet was charged in December 2017 but the allegations from two separate complainants date back to July 2015 and November 2016. The allegations were made by patients undergoing treatment.

Witvoet currently practices out of Thrive Physiotherapy and Sport Injury Clinic in Vernon. He refused to comment when reached by iNFOnews.ca.

According to the College of Physical Therapists of B.C., Witvoet is currently registered as a physical therapist and has been since 2005. The college said in an email that they had never taken any disciplinary action against Witvoet. The college said under the Health Professions Act it could not disclose whether it was aware of the charges or not.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
