Calling all filmmakers: Penticton film festival looking for submissions

PENTICTON – It’s time for local filmmakers to get creative as the call goes out for submissions to the fifth annual Reel Peach Festival.

The community event happens Aug. 7 to 11 at the Peter’s Brothers main stage in Okanagan Lake Park during this year’s 72nd Penticton Peach Festival, according to a media release.

“There is a very vibrant and active arts community in our region and with today’s technology, it is now easier than ever to create your epic masterpiece. We encourage everyone to share their ideas, join their friends and create a film together,” Reel Peach Festival organizer Andrew Jakubeit said in the media release.

Category and genres are open this year, compared to past years when there were two categories.

Filmmakers are welcome to submit one to three minute short films on any subject or genre. The submissions must contain family friendly content, with no nudity, swearing or excessive violence.

Organizers say there will be bonus points awarded to films that feature Okanagan adventures, or a concept deriving and/or containing a peach.

Prizes are broken down into first prize at $1,500 second prize at $750, and third prize at $300. A fan choice category will also be awarded with a $250 gift basket.

The film contest is open to both professional and aspiring filmmakers.
