Quebec leaders back on the campaign trail hoping the debates give them a boost
MONTREAL – The leaders of Quebec’s main political parties get back on the hustings today hoping televised debates will give their respective campaigns a massive boost.
The would-be premiers have just less than two weeks left to impress Quebecers before the Sept. 4 election.
Montreal will be the kick-off point this morning for Liberal Leader Jean Charest, Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois as well as Francois Legault of the Coalition for Quebec’s Future.
Marois and Legault will be coming off their debate last night in which the two clashed over sovereignty, corruption and social policies.
Marois was perceived as the campaign’s front-runner before the various debates began last Sunday, but it is unclear how the encounters have influenced voters.
Charest has been premier since 2003 and is seeking a fourth consecutive debate.
