New Democrat MP Denise Savoie to resign her Victoria seat for personal reasons

OTTAWA – New Democrat MP Denise Savoie is resigning her seat in the House of Commons.

She is set to announce her resignation shortly at her Victoria constituency office, accompanied by NDP Leader Tom Mulcair.

Sources say Savoie, 69, is stepping aside for personal reasons.

She was first elected in 2006 and serves as deputy Speaker in the Commons.

Savoie’s resignation will leave the NDP with 101 seats.
