No seat belts, bad tires, and dangerous driving conditions mean a vehicle collision in Lake Country this afternoon could have been a lot worse.
At 12:45 p.m. a 60-year-old man driving a Ford Taurus attempted to pass a transit bus near Crystal Waters Rd. on Hwy 97. It was snowing and roads were getting slippery.
As the Ford came up in the left lane to pass the bus, its rear-end spun out. The driver tried to correct the motion, but over did it and collided with the bus.
"A passenger in the bus saw the vehicle swerving before the collision," Corp. Tania Carroll told InfoTel News.
Moments later, the Ford struck the side of the bus before ending up in the ditch on the opposite side of the highway.
The jaws of life were used to free an 80-year-old woman from the car.
There were 20-28 passengers on the bus and none of them were injured. The driver of the Ford suffered a "large bump" to his forehead, while his female passenger was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The car was a complete write off say police.
"They were not wearing seat belts, and the tires were in poor condition," Carroll said.
There was minor damage done to the bus, and the Ford was towed away.
Carroll said traffic tickets are pending.
