Autopsy: Texas man was extremely drunk when killing 8 people

PLANO, Texas – A medical examiner says a Texas man had a blood alcohol level four times the state’s legal limit when he drove to his estranged wife’s home and fatally shot her and seven other people.

In an autopsy report issued Monday, Dr. William Rohr of the Collin County medical examiner’s office said 32-year-old Spencer Hight had a blood alcohol level of .33 per cent during the Sept. 10 incident in Plano, Texas. The legal limit for intoxication in Texas is .08 per cent.

Authorities say Hight opened fire at the home, where a football watch party was being held. Hight’s 27-year-old estranged wife Meredith Hight was fatally shot along with seven others.

Officers who responded to the incident fatally shot Spencer Hight.

Friends say he had grown despondent as his marriage dissolved.
