VERNON, B.C. – A ski resort near Vernon, B.C., says one person was injured in an avalanche that swept down one of its runs on Wednesday.
Chantelle Deacon of Silver Star Resort says the man was airlifted off the mountain for treatment with unknown injuries.
She says the avalanche occurred on a double black diamond run just after noon.
The resort has shut down all its lifts and runs and will monitor the situation.
Avalanche Canada issued a special public warning for recreational backcountry users on Monday that remains in place for much of British Columbia and Alberta.
It says dramatic temperature increases in the provinces are increasing the likelihood of avalanches at a time when many people are heading into the mountains. (CJIB, The Canadian Press)
